Marg Vandermost

Clinical Psychologist

Welcome, I’m Marg Vandermost, a psychologist and clinical hypnotherapist with a special interest in chronic pain, trauma, and health-related challenges. Over the past decade I have worked in hospital, government and insurance-funded settings, helping injured and chronically unwell clients return to a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

My background includes 10 years as a senior psychologist at the Interdisciplinary Persistent Pain Centre (Gold Coast Health), where I supported people with complex chronic pain and co‑occurring health and psychiatric conditions, facilitated group programs, and contributed to published research on models of care for persistent pain. I am trained in OldPain2Go, a pain reprocessing approach designed to help reduce unnecessary pain signals.

I am a certified instructor of Empowered Relief TM, an evidence-based, single‑session pain class that quickly teaches practical skills for managing pain; this program is offered online via Zoom, and you can use the enquiry page to register your interest in upcoming classes. To enhance outcomes for clients who have experienced trauma, I have also completed extensive training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and am an EMDRAA Full Member, including specialised EMDR training specifically for pain.

Alongside my psychology work, I am a qualified clinical hypnotherapist with a Professional Hypnosis Diploma from the Jacquin Hypnosis Academy, and I am a member of both the Australian Hypnotherapy Association and the International Hypnosis Association. I use hypnotherapy as an adjunct to support chronic pain reduction, behavioural change, and specialised programs for pregnant women and their birthing partners, where I tailor hypnosis-based preparation for childbirth.

In my practice I take an integrative, client‑centred approach, drawing on a range of evidence‑based therapeutic models to match each person’s needs and goals. I work with clients of all ages experiencing anxiety, adjustment issues, chronic disease, chronic pain, mood disorders and trauma, and I collaborate closely with medical specialists, GPs, government agencies, insurers, disability providers and other allied health professionals to support the best possible outcomes.
